Information about study

For whom the Ceramics Studio is intended

Would you like to start working with clay, but are no longer “of school age”? Are you interested in learning new techniques, in new clay materials and glazes? Do you need to acquire or improve your qualifications and meet colleagues with the same interests? Would you like to see well-known artists at work and are you interested in their opinions about your creations? Then thirty various courses that have been certified by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and a great many other events at our School of Ceramics have been prepared for you.

The types of programs provided

We put together courses in ceramics of various lengths: weekend, five-day, seven-day, combined in longer cycles and also programs individually prepared especially for participants. The courses are ordered into individual branches according to the sphere of interest and level of knowledge of participants. Teaching takes place daily from eight o’clock in the morning to five o’clock in the afternoon. The year-round program is supplemented by lectures, conferences and other events.

Where to find the studio

Map of Kohoutov village The Ceramics Studio is located in the municipality of Kohoutov, which is situated in the forested countryside in the triangle formed by the cities of Dvůr Králové nad Labem, Trutnov and Jaroměř. The School of Ceramics occupies the protected Baroque building of the municipal school. Mass transportation between Kohoutov and Dvůr Králové nad Labem operates only on week days and thus most programs begin on Saturday, where participants can arrive on Friday.

Our facilities

The main ceramics workshop for teaching ceramics is equipped with 6 potters’ wheels. Ceramics are fired in three electric kilns, two gas kilns (one RAKU) and two wood-fired kilns. The facilities are supplemented by a spraying box, grinding bench and extruder. The clay is processed in a material mixing room.
