The Ceramics Studio of Jarmila Tyrnerová s.r.o. is an educational facility for
teaching adults with 20 years of experience.
It is located in the historical building of an old school in a small town in
Eastern Bohemia and is surrounded by a large garden where firing of ceramics in
wood-fired kilns and Raku kilns takes place.
Every year, about 300 participants attend some of the 40 specially oriented
courses of the study program. In addition to intensive teaching in the areas of
modelling, throwing on the wheel, casting and decoration, the programs are also
concerned with teaching ceramics instructors and requalification.
Lectures, professional conferences, artistic symposia and residence stays are
also part of the program of the studio. Our instructors participate in
international projects for exchange of experience and preparation of teaching
videos (videos are available at http://www.eu-ceramics.eu/) and also in
projects for studying new methods of teaching adults (the IDEAL – Grundtvig
project).
The Ceramics Studio cooperates with the Baroque complex and Kuks hospital, which
is an important cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The long-term project
of the Ceramics Studio „Landmarks in the Countryside“ is associated with the
theme of the Baroque landscape. In 2012, the studio presented the results of the
project and two international ceramics symposia on this subject at three
exhibitions: in the museum in Dvůr Králové nad Labem, in the Kuks Hospital
and during the Week of Adult Education in Hradec Králové.
The studio has long cooperated with well-known artists in the Czech and Slovak
Republics. In September of 2012, Jindra Viková acted as a consultant for the
residence stay of Canadian and Belgian artists, which was rounded out by a
exhibition in Dvůr Králové nad Labem.
The participants will have at their disposal three workrooms, 7 kilns for
firing ceramics, a shop selling material and tools, extensive professional
literature in the study room and a gallery with a permanent exhibition of
international ceramics and space for current exhibitions. Further information at
